It was a little of both. And a long story. I started it on my own, working with a lone guy who became difficult. Then the pandemic hit and it sat, then I went to a shop who worked on my 356. I was wanting to take it to baja so I had a deadline. We got close, then when we went to start the "rebuilt" engine, it had an awful noise and that's a whole other story. Our local Porsche dealership manager recommended a great mechanic in Sacramento with air cooled racing experience. He built me a 911 spec motor and beefed up the 915 for racing duty. The other shop continued working on the rest of the car. I took it on a 1000 mile trip through the Nevada desert last spring with a bunch of Raptors, and with the exception of a few infant mortality issues, it did amazingly well - 200 miles each day. Very cool build! I'll bet that desert run was fun! You are not far from the Texas Overland Trail, are you aware of it? Its about a 180 Mile loop out of Fredericksburg and back across a lot of ranch roads between Fredericksburg and Llano. I recall about 3 river/creek crossings. I did it about 3 years ago in my 1990 964 C4 semi rally car. I built the route in a GPX file if you are interested. Needs to be run when water is not up in the low water crossing. I did it solo but I would do it again and can probably get a few guys from Sugar Land to join me, maybe late fall or Q127....
